FROM WAR TO DANCE. NEW MUSEUM DIRECTOR OF DANSMUSEET.

Eva-Sofi Ernstell has been chosen as the new director of Dansmuseet in Stockholm. She is currently the director of the Swedish Army Museum, Ernstell will assume her new role at Dansmuseet from January 1st, 2017.

“We on the board are very happy to have had so many highly qualified applicants wishing to become the next director of Dansmuseet, and we are particularly pleased to be able to offer this position to Eva-Sofi. Knowing as we do of Eva-Sofi’s creativity, courage and commitment, we have high expectations about the next chapter in Dansmuseet’s success story,” says acting chairman of the board of directors Dag Hallberg.

Earlier this year, the Swedish Army Museum was nominated to Museum of the Year 2016, which is the industry’s “Oscar”. Eva-Sofi Ernstell has modernised the Swedish Army Museum during her directorship and implemented innovative and creative new projects. She has previously worked as division director and manager at the Royal Armoury and enjoys a position of trust at ICOM, the International Council of Museums. Eva-Sofi has a master’s degree in art history and a comprehensive background in textiles as a tailor. She is extremely interested in the costume collections at Dansmuseet, where she is eager to begin her new directorship.

“Dansmuseet has an impressive collection and diverse activities. It will be very exciting and rewarding to lead the museum, and I am extremely happy to assume the position of director. I will be able to bring my experience and network of contacts to the museum. To oversee Rolf de Maré’s collected articles, archives and his conception of a significant dance museum, is an undertaking I accept with the utmost respect. Together with the team at the museum, we will make the museum even more widely recognised in Stockholm and the rest of the world,” says Eva-Sofi.

Eva-Sofi Ernstell begins her tenure at Dansmuseet at the beginning of 2017, taking over from the current director, Erik Näslund, after 27 years in the role.
