THE DANCE MUSEUM TRAVELLING EXHIBITION
Women, men and dance convention and revolution is the theme of the Dance Museum’s travelling exhibition. How have the roles of women and men in dance on stage and in social life changed in Western Europe over the past century? This is a long story of tradition and renewal which, of course, in a small exhibition can only be hinted at through a concentrated selection with no claim to comprehensive coverage. In it we find Isadora Duncan, Birgit Cullberg and Virpi Pahkinen rubbing shoulders with Rudolf Nureyev, Michael Jackson and Kenneth Kvarnström, to mention just a few examples, and something of the evolution of social dance culture is mirrored, for instance, by tango, jive and rave.
The exhibition is accompanied by a specially produced video/dvd film.
The exhibition is made up of parts consisting of a rectangular podium with six screens positioned at angles to it, and it is designed to stand in the middle of the room so as to be visible from all angles. The podium is 590 cm long and 110 cm wide. Total height 336 cm.
